[Invisible Children Music: We firmly believe that music has a necessary role in giving social movements tremendous amounts of momentum. It is a universal language, and at Invisible Children, it’s important for us to be a part of that language.]

mixtape monday 17

After just getting off the road traveling across the southern half of the United States following the Thrice tour with my good friend Eugene, I felt like making a mix particularly for a summer road trip. Hopefully it’ll inspire you to grab a few friends, a free convertible somewhere, and drive. I dare you.

We consider this space a portal into the music and art we love and appreciate because we want you to dig deeper, listen to more music, and support them by going to shows and buying their music. We’re family.

01. DRUG CABIN // “Whatever Never” – As recommended by Matt Pack (a recent roadie on the Delta Spirit tour), this track reminds me of something I would’ve heard on The OC. And I loved The OC.

02. WINTERSLEEP // “Weighty Ghost” – This is for those of you wanting to spend the summer months on planes, trains, and automobiles. Perhaps to Nova Scotia, the homeland of this band.

03. MAX AND THE MOON // “Light House” – Being a successful band isn’t easy. Being a successful band from Southern California is nearly impossible. This song is proof that good music will stand out and be heard.

04. HEARTLESS BASTARDS // “Parted Ways” – Being a Partisan Record artist is a guaranteed “like” from us in the IC Music department. And having your music premiered on the television series Friday Night Lights is an absolute no-brainer for me.

05. THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH // “This Wind” – We’ve been following Kristian for a while now (via La Blogotheque). If Bob Dylan was born in 1983 in Sweden, this is what it would sound like.

06. JOHN FULLBRIGHT // “Moving” – A very recent discovery, I haven’t stopped listening to the record “From the Ground Up” (via NPR’s Here and Now). If you’re ever driving through Oklahoma, play this first.

07. MADI DIAZ // “Let’s Go” – A “Nashville-based singer/songwriter” is a hard title to make stand out. Madi does just that. This song reminds me of a current Jimmy Eat World “Clarity” album.

08. KEEGAN DEWITT // “Colour” – Put the windows down. Grab 3 to 4 friends and drive without a destination. NOTE: Don’t play this quietly.

09. WORK DRUGS // “License to Drive” – I discovered this band scrolling through a few of my favorite blogs. I’m glad I scrolled through a few of those blogs.

10. TIJUANA PANTHERS // “Red Headed Girl” – After opening the most recent Delta Spirit tour, we immediately fell in love with these surfer rock tones and sentiments. You will too.

11. MS MR // “Hurricane” – Again, being a part of the IAMSOUND family (Florence and the Machine) is a guaranteed “like” from us. (This track was recommended by our very own Lauren Edwards).
