Hannah Jones is, admittedly, one of my best friends. More relevant than that to this blog post, however, is her dedication to Invisible Children and her willingness to sacrifice to end LRA violence and secure justice for Joseph Kony.

Hannah is one of 5,000+ attending MOVE:DC on November 17. She is making the journey across the Atlantic Ocean from Brighton, England, to Washington D.C.

We asked her four questions about her decision to make the trip and what it means to use her voice for international justice. The answers were as amazing as her block-lettering abilities.

What are you most excited about for MOVE:DC?

I’m so excited to be in America’s capital with thousands upon thousands of other Invisible Children activists – all united over a common belief. There is something so powerful about bringing together like-minded strangers, particularly when it involves calling upon world leaders to end a war. I really believe that MOVE:DC is the culmination of years and years of tireless work, and it has the power to be catalytic in finally ending LRA violence once and for all.

Why is lobbying our world leaders to end LRA violence a priority for you?

IC has always advocated that the issue of the LRA is not limited to Central East Africa, and it isn’t just Americans that are aware of the issue, either – it’s a humanity thing. Lobbying world leaders is so important to show them exactly that – that this is an issue that the world can unite over. The U.S. has taken some great steps over the past few years to try and stop Kony, but now’s the time to extend beyond that and see some global action from world leaders.

What would you say to people still on the fence about making the journey to DC?

I’ve made some pretty reckless decisions in my life. Nearly all of them involving trans-Atlantic flights. But I promise you, this is one that will pay off. This is what my Dad told me when I was gushing to him on the phone about how much I wanted to go to DC: “‘In fifty years, will you look back and think ‘Gee, I am glad I didn’t miss that International Political Economy class, that I felt really rested after that one weekend and I had that extra bit of money I didn’t spend in November 2012…!!’. No, of course not. You’re going to want to look back and think, ‘Wow, I believed in something so important, I took a few chances and I made my mark. I played a part in ending a war.'”

What is your roadtrip (or plane trip) anthem?

I think it will probably be ‘Home is Not Places‘ or anything by The Apache Relay.
