PigPen theatre co

Have you ever had a delicious meal and then tried to describe it to someone else? It’s frustrating right? Because you just want that person to taste it. That’s PigPen Theatre Co. in band / theatre troupe form.

These guys have too much awesomeness to pack into one post…or one medium of entertainment for that matter. This seven-member ensemble plays music, puts on plays, creates animated short films, and is even developing a children’s novel with Writers House. But no matter what type of performance, they’re all about storytelling – they even did a Ted Talk on it – and if you know us, you know we’re suckers for storytelling at IC.

First starting out at The Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2008, PigPen has since released their debut LP “Bremen” and a followup EP “The Way I’m Running”. They’ve also produced (to critical acclaim) three original plays Off-Broadway and in regional theaters. Six years later, it’s safe to say the pigs have left the pen.

And in fact they’re going far, kicking off their first national tour on March 1st. Being natural performers, these guys are really in their element when they’re in front of a crowd. For us lucky San Diegans, they’ll be playing at The Casbah on March 6th with The Tragic Thrills.

A moment of earnestness from me: I think this show is going to be, like, really incredible. With their genuine folk sound, eclectic mix of instruments and lovely melodies, PigPen Theatre Co. creates, in the simplest terms, beautiful music.
