It’s Tuesday. But that’s okay.

Here’s the thing: there’s not much out there that’s unanimous. Music is one of the few. Though tastes in genre my vary, it’s undeniable that there’s a visceral component to music. People connect with it emotionally (which is an overlooked) but rare quality to come by in many mediums.

The songs in today’s Mini Mixtape are ones that I recently came across and felt a connection to. Whether it’s a poignant voice, potent lyrics, a striking melody, or an inspiring beat, to me this string of songs is an example of Invisible Children’s stance on the power of music. That it is a universal language, consistently bringing people together.

If these tracks don’t give you a response, go ahead and play the ones that do. Even if we’re listening to different songs, we’ll both be feeling something in the same way. And that’s a connection right there.

Enjoy the week all!

01. Nitya Rajan – If You’ll Ask :: That bluesy voice. The warm jazz. I happened upon this less than two minute track and it soothed my soul.

02. Animal Years – Let Go of Your Head :: The steady build up to a booming chorus. The chanting midway through. Inspiration choruses through this upbeat track.

03. Chasing Grace – Free :: The juxtaposition of the two voices singing some outstanding lyrics – “I’m finally, I’m finally free to go to a place where they really want me.” Full on feels.

04. The Reverb Junkie – All I Want :: The loveliness of singer Michelle Chamuel’s voice over the innovative use of electronic music. It’s hard not to find the uniqueness of this sound entrancing.

05. Carina Round – You and Me :: This song is beautiful in its simplicity and heartfelt message. But what really hits you at the core is the video that goes along with it. Carina Round had fans submit messages to loved ones and then had them compiled together. The result (below): a display of genuine affection.
