Invisible Children is one in a coalition of NGOs that have been urging for stronger United States’ engagement in addressing the crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR). This week, we need your help in encouraging our policymakers to take action.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power is traveling to Rwanda to commemorate the atrocities committed in during the country’s genocide 20 years ago. Following her time in Rwanda, she will be traveling throughout the region, including visiting Burundi and CAR.

While in CAR, Powers will be meeting with government and civil society leaders, including members of CAR’s new transitional government, most notably President Samba-Panza.

All week, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide and Power’s visit to conflict-affected regions of central Africa, atrocities prevention groups are encouraging people to tweet to US policymakers, urging more action on the Central African Republic and South Sudan.

Both of these areas continue to see extreme political unrest, making them more vulnerable to rebel violence, including that of the LRA.

This week, we’ll be tweeting at the United States Mission to the United Nations and Ambassador Samantha Power to let them know we’re listening and that we’re committed to the future of these countries.
We’re asking for two things:
1)  For the US to reopen its embassy in Bangui, which was closed back in March 2013 due to Seleka violence, and
2) To urge European nations that pledged millions of dollars in humanitarian assistance to CAR to  follow-through on those pledges.
Here’s what we’re tweeting:

“TY @USUN & @AmbassadorPower for supporting UNPKO transition in #CARcrisis. Now open US Embassy & push @EUatUN 2 fulfill humanitarian pledges”

Over the past two years we’ve witnessed the incredible power our combined voices have together. This week, we’re continuing our commitment to working for sustainable peace in central Africa. Will you join us?
