Monday, Monday, Monday– we meet again. If you’re feeling a bit sleepy, dream on this: a collection of tracks that focus on beautiful voices. Sometimes it’s about the lyrics, an awesome riff, or some cool electronic experimentation. In this case though, it’s the actual singing that really makes the songs. So if you’re in need of some sweet soothing this Monday (and who isn’t?) let this mini mixtape be your escape.

01. Alex Vargas – “Solid Ground” :: We know him and love him. This track is no exception. His voice has a heart… and in “Solid Ground” it wears it on its sleeve.

02. Cate Le Bon – “He’s Leaving” :: With its understated charm and unique accent, Le Bon’s voice will instantly remind you of Nico’s if you’re an old school folk-rock fan. Either way, Le Bon’s temperate wistfulness holds its own here.

03. PigPen Theatre Co. – “Song From the Stone” :: So, perhaps this playlist is filled with a few flashbacks. We covered PigPen when they came through San Diego earlier this year, but the expressive harmonies of this seven piece group is worth a repeat mention and an inclusion in one of our mixtapes.

04. Holly Miranda – “Stand By Me” (cover) :: Speaking of flashbacks, “Stand By Me” was released by Ben E. King in 1961. But Holly Miranda (if you haven’t heard of her yet, you will soon) takes this classic song and uses her delicate vocals to make it impossibly more heart-wrenching.

05. Vaults – “Premonitions” :: Diverting a bit from the rest of the playlist, “Premonitions” takes on a more eerie tone. Still, the tantalizing singing and ethereal instrumentation are mild enough that you can sink right into it.
