What do Sean Parker, The Summer Set and Switchfoot have in common? They are all incredible culture makers in the music world – and they’re also stepping up as leaders for social justice as part of our Musician Coalition.

We need your help to get your favorite artists onboard with our latest project, because we believe music has a great capability to promote social justice. We’ve been really fortunate to have worked with incredible musicians over the years – artists like Hayley Williams from Paramore and Ben Lovett from Mumford and Sons contribute to our programs through generous donations and creative partnerships. In 2011, more than 30 artists partnered with us in a campaign that raised over $100,000.

This year, we’re setting the bar even higher – we need to raise $250,000. By joining the Musician Coalition, artists from all genres will set their own goals on a personal fundraising page and bring their fans together to bring permanent peace to areas affected by LRA violence.

Funds from the coalition will support our Early Warning Network – a radio communication program that’s saving lives in central Africa. The LRA targets remote communities with virtually no means of communication, and our network gives them a way to report LRA activity and warn nearby communities. These radio towers also give communities a platform to report attacks to the LRA Crisis Tracker so international players can be informed about the situation and able to respond.

Twelve artists have already committed to joining us: Sean Parker, The Summer Set, Yellowcard, Switchfoot, Kris Orlowski, Ivan & Alyosha, Paramore, Andrew Belle, Alex Vargas, Vikesh Kapoor, Itch, and Kris Allen. Stitcher Radio also signed on as a media partner, and they will distribute content with participating artists on their platform. We’d love it if you gave our partners a shout-out on Twitter to appreciate their incredible support.

We also need your help to get this movement going. Tweet at your favorite artists and encourage them to get onboard with this project. Let them know you care about Invisible Children’s work, and that you’d love to see them get involved. All your voices will create a buzz and get bands excited to sign up.
