The Engagement and Administration Internship is key to ensuring that the headquarters office is able to provide maximum support to our teams on the ground as they work with central African communities. This person takes on two very important roles. First, you’ll engage donors and supporters through direct one-on-one communication as well as through mass marketing and social media – flexing your customer service muscles to ensure that everyone who interacts with Invisible Children has a positive and empowering experience. Second, you’ll support staff across departments with various administrative projects to ensure that we are as efficient and effective as possible.
What you’ll gain from the internship
+ By working across departments, you’ll learn about how international nonprofits operate and how finance, operations, programs, and fundraising departments work together to accomplish an organization’s mission.
+ You will develop skills in communicating with and engaging people by working with the Supporter Engagement Manager to liaise with supporters
+ You’ll become familiar with using some of the most widely used fundraising, communications, and relationship management systems including Salesforce, Mailchimp, and Funraise.
+ You will improve your writing and digital media skills by contributing to a variety of communications outputs, employing digital communication tools like WordPress, Sprinklr, and Facebook Creator Studio.
+ You will learn about conflict dynamics in central Africa and have the opportunity to interact with researchers and program development professionals working in the region.

+ Someone with an eye for good design and the skills to back it up: You know a good visual when you see it and have a talent for and experience in creating eye-catching and creative visual assets.
+ It’s a major plus if you can read and write in French, but it’s not required.

This is an unpaid, part-time internship located at our headquarters in Washington, DC that will start in late August and end in mid-December. You’ll need to set aside 15-20 hours a week for this internship with your exact weekly schedule being determined upon hire. Depending on how public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 develop, the internship will either take place at Invisible Children’s office located just off the Shaw/Howard Metro stop in NW Washington, DC or be a remote position.
We’re a semi-casual, dog-friendly workplace and our office is located in a WeWork coworking space that offers free coffee & tea and regularly hosts networking and community-building events that interns are encouraged to participate in.
