Invisible Children is seeking experienced proposal writing professionals to assist our team in preparing various funding and project proposals for institutional and private funders. Selected proposal writers will play a key role in securing new projects and funding for the organization by working in collaboration with Invisible Children’s program and development teams to outline, draft, and finalize grant and project proposals for a variety of funders. A successful proposal writer will help ensure that proposals submitted by Invisible Children are highly competitive, responsive to donor guidelines and priorities, and align with the organization’s values.

Anticipated Geographic Areas of Focus: Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particularly focus in the central Africa region

Consultant Responsibilities & Duties:

+ Read and analyze solicitation, all proposal documents, and the proposal outline;

+ Work with the Invisible Children Technical Lead and other designated Program personnel to determine proposal concepts by participating in proposal planning & ideation meetings and identifying opportunities;

+ Work with Technical Lead and other technical contributors to develop technical solutions in design meetings;

+ Draft accurate, responsive, compelling text for proposals, including background/context, executive summary, technical approach overview, activity components, technical annexes, etc. as assigned;

+ Incorporates win themes and overall technical approach into writing;

+ Work with Proposal Team and relevant Invisible Children leadership to ensure that all relevant proposal content aligns with IC’s organizational values;

+ Work with the Proposal Team and designers to develop maps and graphics as needed;

+ Collaborate with Invisible Children staff and Proposal Team to continuously improve and streamline proposal development process;

+ Support the development and maintenance of Invisible Children’s proposal content library and related documentation to include capability statements, research papers, past performances, management plans, and other related proposal content.

Skills & Qualifications:

+ Experience working with international NGOs;

+ Experience with proposal writing within one or more of the sectors outlined above;

+ Familiarity with relevant technical areas, including, but not limited to: early warning and early response, community-based protection, community resilience, conflict analysis, community-based conservation, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV);

+ Past performance as the main writer for at least two (2) successful funding proposals;

+ Experience writing proposals for government institutions; experience with USAID and other US government agencies is preferred;

+ Strong ability to manage time and meet established deadlines;

+ Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through;

+ Flexibility and capacity to collaborate across teams;

+ Fluent in English (written and verbal);

+ Excellent written communication skills;

+ Knowledge of French (preferred).

Contract Terms

The initial contract will cover one proposal writing project to completion. Terms will be negotiated based on the project and the candidate. The contract will be eligible for renewal based on performance and the needs of the organization.
