The Common Good Exchange, taking place at the Fourth Estate Leadership Summit, will host 40 social organizations who are on the forefront of changing the commercial business game. Some refer to them as social enterprises, and by definition that’s true, but we refer to them as organizations that “get it”. Summit attendees will have the chance to interact with the people behind these innovative brands and learn the ins-and-outs of our global role in humanitarian efforts.
Rooted in the passion of design and the power of helping others, we’re proud to welcome our friends at Raven + Lily to the Fourth Estate Summit.
A project started by two friends, Kirsten Dickerson and Sophia Lin, Raven + Lily has evolved into an organization that works toward alleviating poverty among women worldwide. The organization works with artisans in Africa, India, Cambodia, and the United States and provides them with jobs at a fair trade wage to produce a variety of handmade goods such as jewelry, apparel, and crafts.
Through job creation, Raven + Lily opens up doors to sustainable futures for artisans. Providing them with tools to perfect their skills through a safe job, women behind the organization have a steady income, healthcare options, educational resources, and ultimately the chance to “break the cycle of poverty.” Raven + Lily’s lines vary from country to country to depict not only the women’s culture but also to utilize the resources available to them. The organization also focuses on different areas of need in each country. In the United States, goods are produced to help support homeless women, while in Ethiopia the collection empowers HIV-positive women.
To no surprise, in 2012 Raven + Lily received the CLASSY Award for Philanthropic Business of the Year. We’ve believed in the organization for some time now (check out our online shop) and we’re excited to introduce activists from around the world to the social good they’ve created.
