Sudan

Over the past six days the world’s youngest country, South Sudan, has been rocked by violence fueled by the political posturing and ambition of the country’s elite. Most frightening is that this violence has been drawn largely upon ethnic lines, the fires of which have been stoked by political feuding. 500 civilians have been killed in the past six days and the potential for additional bloodshed is high.

We are still monitoring how this is affecting the counter-LRA mission as the Ugandan and U.S. militaries, as well as many of our civil society partners, are working on stopping the LRA who operate out of South Sudan.
