Due to the insecurity caused by the LRA in central Africa, access to food for many communities is a daily struggle. One of the main sources of food comes from local hunters who travel deep into the jungle in search of wild game, however, as one community member recently told us, “when the LRA came they said, if they see any person from the village in the bush, they will kidnap and kill them.”
In spite of the insecurity, local hunters in some of the most vulnerable communities have volunteered to be “Ambassadors of Peace” as a part of local Community Defection Committees (CDCs). These hunters turned “Ambassadors of Peace” not only take their weapons into the bush to hunt, but they also take defection fliers – printed by Invisible Children with the CDC – to encourage the LRA to surrender into their community. The primary objective is to continue to encourage and facilitate LRA defection, making their community safer in the process.
