Looking for an internship that’s more challenging than coffee runs and making copies? At Invisible Children, we trust our interns with valuable assignments, and their efforts directly affect our mission to bring a permanent end to the LRA conflict. As our Executive Assistant and Director of People Operations said, “You do real work. Real projects that make an impact.”

Check out some of the projects our current interns are tackling.

Stephanie Mullen – Communications Intern

Our communication interns have a lot of responsibility. Every day, we post to a Facebook account with 3.3 million likes, and a Twitter account with over 250,000 followers. We write tons of pieces for our blog and draft copy for mass emails, all as “Invisible Children.” You know, no big deal.

“As a communications intern, I act as the voice of Invisible Children, and it’s a job no one on the Comm team takes lightly. It means getting out of our own heads and becoming the organization that is Invisible Children. We are responsible for grabbing your attention on Facebook or Twitter and you casually scroll through your news feed– and then keeping it. But why is this important? Because Invisible Children doesn’t exist without our supporters.”

Emily Jaumillot – Engagement Intern

Our engagement team is the largest intern department in our San Diego HQ, and they are the voice of our organization for hundreds of supporters every day. Fourth estate donors contribute about $100,000 every month to Invisible Children, which is a huge portion of our funding. These supporters are the lifeblood of our organization, and engagement interns get to directly interact with them, thanking them for their support and updating them on current campaigns. One of the key roles of the engagement team is to keep these supporters’ payment information current to make sure these vital donations keep coming in. The entire team celebrates each successful update call, because every re-activated donation increases support for our life-saving programs on the ground.

“We’ve re-updated over $16,000 through update calls since we’ve been here, and that doesn’t even count email updates. We get to make our supporters feel important through a more personal experience. We let them know we appreciate every bit of money they can give. It’s actually eye-opening, how important just a little bit of money is. Even if it’s $1 a month, that’s 12 defection fliers that could reach someone in the bush who wants to escape.”

Angimero LeBron – Graphic Design Intern

Angimero LeBron rocks it as one of two graphic designers on our team. He’s behind a lot of exciting, new designs we’re putting out: defection fliers that we drop over LRA groups in central Africa, email promotions, fundraising pamphlets, and very important donor pitches.

“I am currently working on a high-level donor campaign, helping design the mailer and the website interface. It is an important project that I am thrilled to work on. It is humbling that I am trusted with this project with some creative freedom involved; collaborating with the art team and the writers is an exciting process too. As an intern, this is a big deal!”

Connor Close – Operations/Finance Intern

Connor tackles everything there is to do in our warehouse – from organization and shipping, to making sales and taking inventory.

“My daily job so far is preparing for an audit that’s coming up. It’s cool for me because when I came to this internship, I wanted to learn how a business operates from the background (the accounting, finance, and operations side of things). Being in the warehouse, I’ve been able to understand how that works and get experience on popular programs like Ship Station and Shopify. The point of internship is to learn, and I’m learning a lot.”

We’re looking for more talented and dedicated applicants for the fall. check out our job descriptions.
