Making a plan is one thing, following it is another. How to create a personal timetable and stick to it was the topic of discussion during an interactive group mentoring session for Legacy Scholarship Program (LSP) students at Gulu High School last week.
The purpose of the gathering was to share ideas on how the students can better manage their time by allocating the right amount of time for every activity whether homework, extra-curricular activities, or even rest.
With a leadership position in the school, Beatrice, a science student, is using her personal timetable to manage her time. “Other than having time for revision, I have time for my fellow students. This has helped me demonstrate my leadership skills as well as concentrate on my books,” she says.
Mentors advised the students to make certain they balance all subjects by not spending all their time on subjects that they like but also focusing on those they may find challenging.
Team or group mentoring in LSP is a form of mentoring that involves group discussions and sharing of experiences. Both students and mentors weigh in on various topics that will enhance the academic and social lives of LSP students. Scholarships in LSP are awarded to motivated and talented university and secondary students from northern Uganda who were affected by the Lord’s Resistance Army conflict.
