[Invisible Children Music: We firmly believe that music has a necessary role in giving social movements tremendous amounts of momentum. It is a universal language, and at Invisible Children, it’s important for us to be a part of that language.]
After listening through this mix a couple times, I’ve noticed that it reflects ideas and themes embodied by one of my favorite writers and thinkers,
Søren Kierkegaard. Music seems to have a way into hearts easier than the simple written word – at times. So check out his stuff if you like this mix. Or even if you don’t like this mix.We consider this space a portal into the music and art we love and appreciate because we want you to dig deeper, listen to more music, and support them by going to shows and buying their music. We’re family.
01. CRUSIER // “The Fritz” – As recommended by our good friend Anna Azarjew (an IC legend), this track makes me want to re-live the summer before college. It was actually recorded inside a walk-in closet in a crowded inner city loft in Philly. Music happens anywhere.
02. THE ROCKETBOYS // “Bloodless” – This song comes from their sophomore album Build Anyway, which was just released last week. IC Music started collaborating with this Texas-based band for their upcoming Fall tour at about the same time. Stay tuned…
03. AIR REVIEW // “America’s Son” – Sent from a friend in Dallas, I’m reminded about the beauty of layered vocals in front of simple rhythms and chord progressions. Play this during your 4th of July celebrations coming up while wearing that American flag tank-top we’ve all seen in Urban Outfitters and on Jedidiah Jenkins.
04. THE PAPER KITES // “Willow Tree March” – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… the music coming out of Australia is consistently blowing minds everywhere. “What will you leave behind. For we all still die.” I’ve been in love with this band since they released the acclaimed song “Bloom” in 2010.
05. PATRICK WATSON // “Words In The Fire” – I was reminded of this incredible Montreal-based songwriter after he played a show in San Diego last week and after our friend Nada from FWBA used this track on a recent mix. I haven’t stopped playing this in my ears.
06. GRIZZLY BEAR // “Sleeping Ute” – FINALLY. We know when the next Grizzle Bear record is set to release with the this teaser track (September 18th). It will be one of the most anticipated records of 2012. Trust.
07. THE PAPER KITES // “Featherstone” – This band needed 2 slots on this week’s mini mixtape. Obviously.
08. EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS // “Man on Fire” – Another very recent release (MAY), this song feels like Doc’s Delorean taking us back in time. Edward Sharpe should’ve been the opening band for a Johnny Cash tour.

On the road // Kindness is commonWe’ve been keeping tabs on our Warped Tour Roadies, Nathan and Catherine, as they travel across the country and spread the word about Invisible Children. They’ve met some incredible bands and Invisible Children supporters, and we love hearing their stories. This week, Catherine reflects on some of the random acts of kindness she’s seen on tour. And from what we can […]
