Well, the time has come. Last Tuesday, they released the first single off their sophomore effort due out in August. I personally have had this song on repeat since its release and I won’t apologize for it.
“The One That Got Away” is a hauntingly beautiful tale of a love affair gone awry. A reflection of a relationship that you wish never happened. Battling emotions of anger, sadness, and a hint of regret. This one gives Adele some solid competition. I’m not sure if it is the strong guitar and drum beats, the raw lyricism, or the powerful yet soft vocals of Joy Williams, but I had the chills through the entire song. You can feel her pain as she sings and can almost hear her voice shake as she gets into the thick of the song. In a letter to fans, vocalist, Joy Williams wrote “I hope you feel the heart in each song, that it might connect with yours.” Well Joy, I assure you that we can.
