It’s a big day y’all. We’re celebrating National One-Hit-Wonder Day! We all know them. We all love them. The timeless songs we know every word to by bands we still don’t know the names of. Today we celebrate and commemorate these gems.
Rolling Stone named Take On Me by A-ha as the #1 one hit wonder in the US. The Norwegian band was much more popular in Europe, they didn’t see much success here outside of this single. Props to the lead singer, though. He is able to hit notes I couldn’t hit if I tried. Billboard named Daniel Powter’s hit single Bad Day the #1 one hit wonder of the 2000’s. The song hit #1 on the charts and went triple platinum so I don’t know what kind of bad day he was referencing, but I think his days are pretty good now. MTV’s choice: Thong Song by Sisqo. An obvious favorite.
A few of my favorites include: Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus, Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men, No Rain by Blind Melon. The list goes on.
I asked some staff and interns what their favorites were. Their choices did not disappoint.
