Many young people around northern Uganda are completing their academic programs and celebrating the end of the school term, but our celebration this week were all about a different group of learners.
993 members of Invisible Children’s Functional Adult Literacy Program were joined by their families and community leaders during two ceremonies held on Friday and Monday to celebrate their graduation and successful completion of the course.

Representatives from each FAL group, their facilitators, Invisible Children’s Livelihoods team and our partner organization Technoserve join local leaders at the graduation ceremony for FAL groups in Lakwana sub-country.
FAL groups recently sat for exams to test their mastery of writing, reading and basic mathematics – subjects they have received instruction in over the course of the past year. For individuals who never had the chance to begin or complete their education, the celebration is an important reminder that it is never too late to learn. Members of the groups aim to use their new literacy skills to help their businesses, support their families and improve their communities.

During their performance one of the learning groups demonstrated the importance of supporting one another.
Throughout the afternoon, each group performed for the crowd. Many spoke of their thanks for the program as well as the power of education.
Think people should hear about this?
