Every child abducted by Joseph Kony’s rebel army is robbed of his childhood and a normal life — until he escapes. This is the story of a new beginning.

Ochora Walter-2

Ochora Walter (middle) recently escaped the LRA

Almost 10 years after he was abducted into Joseph Kony’s LRA, Ochora Walter is happy to finally be home. The rebel group forced Walter to fight in their violent war when he was only 11, but he decided to escape the army after realizing that the rebellious fighting was useless.

Now, at only 20 years old, Walter is the youngest of the recent returnees to recieve physical and psychological treatment at the Children of War Rehabilitation Center in Uganda (a center funded by Invisible Children and implemented by World Vision Uganda). Not only are Walter’s parents especially thankful for his safe return, but members of Walter’s village are elated that he is back and wish the same for other children still in LRA captivity. In the future, Walter is planning to invest in his education and he will return to school in the next few months. His new life is only beginning.
