Question: what do Beyoncé , Hillary Clinton, and Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe have in common? Answer: this year, they all made it on to Time magazine’s 100 most influential list.
Sister Rosemary has spent 30 years serving in the epicentre of violent wars in South Sudan and Uganda. She ‘openly defied’ Joseph Kony while he was committing atrocities in northern Uganda, and has since cared for over 2,000 girls and women through her Saint Monica Girls’ Tailoring Center, where she teaches them to “make their own clothes, grow their own food, learn a valuable trade, and show mercy to others that are less fortunate.” She’s personally met Caesar Achellam, has a picture with Will.i.am on her Facebook page, and has just had a book written about her. If you need more evidence that she’s a sound lady, then there’s this: when Invisible Children team member Nicole was in Uganda, she baked her a birthday cake.
Massive congratulations to sister Rosemary – she’s our next door neighbour in Uganda (her house is right by our international staff house in Gulu) and we’re stoked her work’s been recognised. You can read more about her in the Time write up. Here’s a highlight:
“What truly fascinates the people who have the privilege to meet with Sister Rosemary — as I did when I narrated a film about her, Sewing Hope — is her magnetic and contagious energy.” – Actor Forest Whitaker.
Think people should hear about this?
