JEANNIE CLARK, JOHN PFEIL, SUNEE WASHOM AND DANIEL SZYMCZYK
Ugandan teammate: Nimaro Grace Olwoch
Self-proclaimed team motto: “Kid, you’ll move mountains”
Welcome Mountain West! Thanks for taking time out of booking to talk with me. Let’s begin with where you’re from.
Jeannie Clark (JC): Henniker, New Hampshire. Which is the only Henniker on Earth.
John Pfeil (JP): Vista, California.
Sunee Washom: Northern California.
Daniel Szumczyk (DS): Charlotte, North Carolina.
How did you learn about Invisible Children?
JC: I went to screening this past September [the Frontline Tour].
JP: I saw a screening in College in 2008.
SW: I went to see The Rescue as a sophomore in high school.
DS: In high school, one of my best friends had an IC meeting but was afraid no one would come so she dragged me to it. I had no idea what it was but I got very into it after that.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
JC: That’s hard, there are like 10 I’d like to have. But I think I’d like to be able to heal someone just by putting my hand on them.
JP: I’d want to put my hand on the cover of a book and have the book read.
SW: I just want to fly…
DS: Apparate [in the Harry Potter world, this is a spell which allows the user to instantaneously teleport from one location to another].
What would you eat for your last meal?
JC: Tortellini Alfredo w/ Broccoli.
JP: Puffer fish Sushi – you can die after ingesting. It’s like the best food challenge you could ever take!
SW: This actually might be a good question, host homes might make it…sweet potatoes, asparagus and quinoa. I actually think I’ll make that for dinner tonight.
DS: Pizza from this place called Bricks in Charlotte. Just plain cheese. The best pizza ever. Then after that, my grandma’s guava pastries.
What is your biggest fear?
JC: The first thing that comes to mind is hurting myself beyond repair. Like if I lost the ability to use my legs.
JP: Turning 45 and being unhappy with the decisions I made in life.
SW: Typical fear answer, but settling and not being fulfilled.
DS: Somebody controlling me with their mind and I can’t do anything about it.
JC: Those are all so much better than mine!
SW: …but it’s so representative of our team!
What is your favorite movie?
JC: Amelie.
JP: In to the Wild.
SW: The Fisher King. I just saw it recently and I love it. Is that weird?
DS: Pans Labyrinth.
What TV show could you watch all day, every day?
DS: This one is SO easy…
JC: Meerkat Manor!
SW: She’s obsessed with small rodents.
JC: I don’t even want to look at this blog post, I’m so embarrassed.
JP: Portlandia.
SW: Gilmore Girls. I have every season.
DS: Can I give three? It’s a three-way tie. Scrubs, The Office and Community.
You’d fit in so well at my house. Who is your celebrity crush?
JC: Emile Hirsch but only if he has a beard.
JP: Amelia Earhart.
SW: I don’t even know what he looks like anymore, but Orlando Bloom.
You’re safe, he’s still hot.
DS: Natalie Portman.
What are you most looking forward to during the tour?
JC: It’s a tie between seeing the landscape and connecting with young students.
JP: Seeing the light go on in these people – like they finally get it.
SW: There are a lot of legends from Mountain West, from contacts to alumni, so probably living out all the legends.
DS: The landscape, especially if we get to see the Grand Canyon. I’m in the middle of college right now so chilling with college students and talking about what we’re all passionate about.
This will be such an exciting time for you guys! Good luck out there! Stop at nothing.
