Returning from school holidays, secondary students from Invisible Children’s Legacy Scholarship Program, together with their parents, were called to a gathering called “Family Involvement as an Opportunity for Holistic Development of a Child.” Parents were given a platform to share words of encouragement with their children as they head back to school.

The parents not only encouraged the students to behave well and focus on earning good grades, they also exhorted one another to engage in their children’s academics and provide support as best they can.

Auma Coline is in her last two years of secondary school, studying science.  For her, such meetings are very helpful because they are a tool she can use to refresh herself after a long holiday.

“Invisible Children pays my school fees while my parents provide school requirements like books,” she says.  “I see no reason why I should not excel in my studies.”

Strengthening the role of parents provides students with a better support system, making them more likely to persevere through the challenges of completing their education.
