ICU staff and guest speakers address students during career guidance at Anaka SS.


This week the Legacy Scholarship Program (LSP) and the Schools for Schools (S4S) teams joined forces to hold career guidance seminars at four partner schools. While in the past these sessions focused on LSP students, this time they were offered to all students in the targeted grade levels at the schools. This way, not only the LSP students but also their peers at school will be equipped to plan for their futures.

“Our LSP students are influenced by their peers, so reaching out to an entire class improves the learning environment,” Leo, an LSP mentor explains.

During the career guidance, Invisible Children Uganda staff address issues like boy-girl relationships, discipline and how to set a vision for yourself. Guest speakers are invited to instruct students on topics like how to excel academically, and modes of entry to tertiary institutes.

Leo encourages students to be forward-thinking as they consider their desired career paths.

“The future is not limited to what is happening today,” he says. “How do you want to be remembered?”

He explains to students how to set goals that will lead them toward achieving their dreams.

Students in LSP are supported in their education by mentors, community leaders who act as role models and counselors. They work full-time with students and their families to ensure that students are able to complete their education.
