[Invisible Children Music: We firmly believe that music has a necessary role in giving social movements tremendous amounts of momentum. It is a universal language, and at Invisible Children, it’s important for us to be a part of that language.]
New Year:New You. It’s a saying I’m trying to get on trend in our (new) office. It has yet to really catch on, but I’m sticking with it until it does. I’m going to get neon tees made, and my goal is to get Drake in one. It applies to anything you’re attempting to do that is an evolution of your past.
SPEAKING OF AN EVOLUTION OF YOUR PAST, we (Invisible Children Music) are reviving our Monday Mini Mixtape with new installments of continuous playlists on SoundCloud. We’re moving away from our Mediafire days of yore (it’s better for the artists this way). You can listen to the entire playlist below or click through [HERE] and go on to discover more work by each artist.
01. MØ – “Pilgrim” : Sadly, we only discovered this gem this past week. Thus meaning, we’ve been missing months of serious grooves from this musician from Denmark.
02. BOM BOM – “Woman” : This debut track from a new duo fronted by veteran songwriter Sophie Stern. It’s a confetti-canon blazing little pop anthem.
03. HAIM – “Send Me Down” : We haven’t stopped talking about HAIM since their first track emerged online, and the world is catching on now. They’ve taken over the UK after an opening slot on the Florence + The Machine tour and were just named the top choice for BBC’s Sound of 2013. Get. It.
04. EVERYTHING EVERYTHING – “Kemosabe” : This band has returned for their sophomore album Arc is a serious way. This recent single could have our favorite middle eight of 2013 (yes, it’s early, but we’re confident).
05. TOM ODELL – “Another Love (Demo)” : Tom Odell has also been a hugely tipped one to watch in the upcoming months. His EP Songs From Another Love is perfect, and we’re geeking out because we’re seeing him in LA soon. Big times.
06. DENAI MOORE – “Flaws” : It’s just redundant at this point to talk about the brilliance of this song. It just received its first play on BBC’s Radio 1, so it’s about to take off. The DJ Rob da Bank said it’s a new genre of foul – soul and folk. We’ll take that as a genre so as he continues to play it.
07. IO ECHO – “Ministry of Love” : In my head, this is the first song to play in a really edgy (but actually just a copy of Lena Dunham’s Girls) television show I’m going to create. There’s something so nostalgic about Io Echo’s sound that we can’t get over.
08. NIGHT PANTHER – “Fire” : Night Panther gave us one of the biggest dance songs of 2012 with “Fever,” and they’re back with another elevated track of beautiful build into falsetto fury.
09. ANGEL HAZE – “Smile” : Angel Haze has been the center of some recent Twitter beef, of which she is all above. Thanks to the hype, however, I got to explore her older material – including this massive spoken word piece “Smile.” Angel Haze has a trademark on honesty.
Think people should hear about this?
