Something uniquely special happens when you’re traveling. Lives intersect, cultures collide, adversity happens, and soon you lose count of all the unforgettable moments. But no matter what happens, you’re left with something that will be with you beyond the exploration and adventure — experience. Being globally connected through technology easily causes us to forget how “unconnected” the world could be, so that’s why street artist Seth Globepainter visualizes life’s unexpected journey on walls wherever he lands.

As laid out in his name, Globepainter, he travels to countries painting murals reflecting the daily lives of those who call it home. Known for his figurative-based style, his surreal graffiti pieces clash culture and history together depicting the complex societies we live in. What started as a desire to see what other countries had to offer, soon evolved into a fascination with ways he can interact and truly understand his surroundings.

In the 80’s, with hip-hop hitting France and the rise of street art popularity, Globepainter was inspired to capture graffiti through photographs and eventually picked up a spray-paint can himself. In 1996, while perfecting his drawing skills in school, he collaborated with other street artists on his first works. Since then, he has touched down in India, China, Mexico, Palestine, Belgium, and many other countries.

From an image perspective, his work distinctly draws influence from the country he is in and highlights commonly known examples of each culture. It’s not until he photographs locals in front of the murals that a new perspective of his work takes form. Not only does it add a human element to the murals, it’s also a striking insight to the reality behind the paintings.  With the perfect balance of substance and actuality, Globepainter has created art speaking to those who have never let their passions fade.  Maybe, opening your path to adventure will lead to a more connected world.
