The Scared is Scared, Invisible Children

We all get a little scared sometimes. Six-year-old Asa Baker-Rouse understands that. His solution? Think of something until “the nervous has gone out of you.”

When filmmaker and soon-to-be college graduate Bianca Giaever asked this creative six-year-old what she should make a movie about, he told her the story of of a bear, a mouse, a swimming pool, and some pizza. The collaboration is an eight minute masterpiece that is nothing short of Oscar-worthy. With an original score and a narrative voice that could compete with Morgan Freeman, it’s proof that children see the world differently than we do, and a reminder that we could all benefit from listening to the stories they have to tell.

Kid President Robby Novak and Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis have captivated our attention recently, and now Asa is taking his turn in the spotlight. In a world dominated by headlines of adults doing terrible things, it’s refreshing to see life from the perspective of innocence and optimism.

When Bianca told Asa that she was scared of graduating college, he simply told her:

“You should just just say, ‘okay, I’m fine!’ I think about something that I really like to do. You think of something else until the nervous has gone out of you. The scared is scared of things you like.”

Truth from the mouth of a child. If I ever had doubt in the generation coming after mine, it’s been restored after watching this video. We’ll be in good hands.
