“I see no way of thanking Invisible Children for supporting me through school, other than through giving back to the community,” says Peter, a student at Gulu University.
Last week, university students in the Legacy Scholarship Program (LSP) took a break from studies to clean up at a health center that serves the local community. According to Joyce, a nursing officer at the center, when medicine is available the center receives 100-150 patients each day.
“We the students decided to give back to the community by cleaning the health center and plan to do more, like cleaning big hospitals, having discussions with our secondary counterparts about academic issues, and inspiring many in life,” says Charles the student coordinator of this activity and the chairman of Gulu University Acholi Students Association.
As the students dug around the center’s compound, slashed away the grass, gathered rubbish and mopped floors, passersby stopped to thank them for their work. A few people even joined in to clean with them. Through their service to the community, students of the Legacy Scholarship Program are already inspiring many in life.
