We wrote about Seattle’s Le Wrens when they debuted their first music video for “Don’t Forget Me.” They’re a refreshing new offering in the folk scene, and the accompanying clip for the first single only makes us want to be best friends with them and make pies and go on hikes and cook vegan meals together.
This week, the group are releasing their first EP, and it’s something to write home about. Don’t Forget Me is an ideal debut – the songs are varied and show off the full sound that the band has to offer. The definitive highlight of the collection is the opening track “Chances,” which shows that lead vocalist Elizabeth Gundersen can emote and wail with the finest in the genre. It’s a slow-burning/heavy-yearning cut that opens up in the chorus and breathes some serious life.
The group played in Seattle over the weekend to celebrate the release. A few of our former employees were in attendance (as we’re all pretty big fans of any authentic music), and they’re reporting back amazing thing. Brother to many members of the band Noah Gundersen, who also co-produced the record, hopped on stage to play live takes of the EP tracks and select other songs. Naturally, we stalked and viewed all of the YouTube videos from the show – including this incredible take on Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.”
If we’re this into the EP, we can only imagine what our emotions will be regarding the full record.
