Last Friday, our CEO, Ben Keesey, responded to an open letter from a supporter asking, “How are you promoting the inherent value of Joseph Kony?” He responded and so did you. Below is a round-up of your reactions.
“I cannot humanize someone who dehumanizes others.” – Debra R. Berry
“It is the belief that one person is better than another person that leads to atrocities such as trafficking, child soldiers and racism…. So, we can call Kony to account for his actions and do our best to take steps to a better tomorrow by seeing each and every soul as inherently valuable. Even Kony.” – Joy
“He has not concerned himself with the favorite colors of his victims–why in the world would it even occur to us to care about his.” – Kristin
“I personally know that I am a liar. I am incredibly prideful. I am lustful and envious. I have stolen before. Every single human on this planet has committed wrong doing, and has transgressed another, and yet we are not seen as devoid of inherent value as a human.” – Andrew M.
“If we spend time thinking about him as a person, and doing our best to understand why things have happened the way they have, I think we lessen the possibility of situations like this happening again, and we’re better equipped to stop someone and help them before they escalate to the level Kony has reached.” – Mollie Jackman
“I sometimes wonder if when we violate the rights of another, we are somehow forfeiting over some of our own.” -Sacha
Thank you for your willingness to engage in this discussion with us. We will be continuing it in the coming weeks. If you would like to see Ben Keesey’s original response to Katie Dwyer’s letter, you can find it HERE.
