The Legacy Scholarship Program university beneficiaries had the opportunity to learn more about how to thrive after and while still at the university through a workshop that was organized to empower, motivate and inspire students to make good use of the available resources.
The students were taught skills in speaking, presenting and driving, and advised to pick up any other skills they can. They also carried out self-reflections to ensure that their set goals are achieved.
“Live as if you are to die tomorrow, learn as if you are to live forever,” says Timothy Akiiki, one of the key inspirational speakers at the workshop.
Hon. Jessica Erio, a Member of the Ugandan Parliament, also addressed the students to encourage them in the face of challenges. “No matter the challenges you face, know that no situation is permanent. Make sure you are in position to know your opportunities because a blessing for you will not be transferred to someone else,” she says.
For Patricia, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Art in Education at Kyambogo University, the workshop empowered her to move on with her plan of becoming self reliant in the future. “In addition to becoming a professional teacher, I am going to put more effort into farming and am planning to rear chickens and set up a fruit plantation. I have come to understand how someone’s background should not determine their future, because despite their backgrounds many have been successful in life,” she says.
Ready to dive into a new chapter of life, many of the students were hopeful to become self-reliant and creative in whatever they do.
