All secondary schools in Uganda have a Head Boy & Head Girl who are appointed student leaders. They help coordinate between staff and students, representing the needs of the students to teachers, and the authority of teachers to students. In most cases they are democratically elected; they write an application, and then the student body votes. They are in office for one year, then they can run again. (For the sake of comparison, it’s like being a Student Council President at a school in the U.S.)

Our team from IC Uganda recently sat down with the prefects from each of our 11 partner schools in our Schools for Schools program to ask them about their favorite subjects, their challenges, and their dreams.
