Big-shot-consultant-turned-teacher Angela Lee Duckworth studied the elusive question of what makes people successful. Disclaimer: it wasn’t IQ, talent, or money. Her answer? Grit. As a teacher of seventh graders, Duckworth noticed that it was her hard-working, determined students that had the highest test scores, even if they had lower IQs compared to some of their brighter – but lower-achieving – peers. The phenomenon of grit and its integrality to success motivated Duckworth to study the psychology of grit, and this is what she learned:
“Grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in and day out… and working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living your life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
We thought this short six-minute video might just be exactly what you need to stay motivated as you fundraise for #zeroLRA. We’re so grateful to have supporters that are willing to fight for justice like it’s a marathon, not a sprint. May the grit be with you.
