Zachary Kimotho knows what it means to be caught in the crossfire of injustice. A native of Kenya, Zack was shot in a car-jacking incident eight years ago from which he suffered a severe spinal injury that has left him wheelchair-bound ever since. There is currently no specialist care for spinal injuries in Kenya, or elsewhere in East Africa. Yet.
It would cost nearly $3 million USD ($250 million Kenyan Shillings) to build a Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Unit in the Kenyan capitol Nairobi, and Zack is determined to fundraise the money — by pushing himself 2,485 miles, via wheelchair, from Nairobi to South Africa (the nearest spinal care unit). Zack’s positivity in the face of unfair circumstances, his confidence in his power as an individual, and his determination to change the landscape of healthcare in Kenya are truly inspiring.
Zack is proof that everybody can do something. Our hats are off to him and all our own #zeroLRA fundraisers for working so tirelessly to raise money for causes that matter.
