This season, we are celebrating everything — every escape, every name, every life — and we are asking our supporters to do the same as we countdown to #zeroLRA. The Marciano family took celebrations to a whole new level when, after hosting our California Roadies at their home, they found out Proscovia, a Roadie from Uganda, was about to graduate from university.
Emma Marciano, a high schooler from Buckley School, graciously invited the California team to her house for a night after a screening. Over dinner, Proscovia mentioned that she was about to graduate from university after receiving a scholarship through Invisible Children’s Legacy Scholarship Program — the first in her family to receive a university degree. Emma and her mom were so inspired by Proscovia’s story that they decided to throw her a graduation party to celebrate her incredible accomplishment.
A couple weeks and one balloon bouquet later, the Marciano family, Proscovia, and the rest of the California Roadies were all gathered for a beautiful party. Among the attendees were locals Marivic and Raul, who had been longtime donors to the Legacy Scholarship Program. The party was a special time for them to connect with Proscovia to see how, truly, people across the world can affect each other’s lives. When Proscovia took a moment to thank everybody for funding her education, there wasn’t a dry eye left at the party.
Of course, cake and presents instantly put smiles back on everyone’s faces again.
We are so proud of Proscovia and the 950 other secondary and university Legacy Scholarship Program students for pursuing their education. They are living examples of why fundraising for the #zeroLRA campaign is so important — to ensure that programs like this can continue to impact the lives of youth across East and central Africa.
