I have some bad news. You’ve missed the deadline to apply to be a part of the first human colony on Mars. In fact, Mars One has just whittled the 200,000+ candidates down to a (very) long list of 1,058.
Opinion in the scientific community is split as to whether the project has a hope of fulfilling its aim of sending four people on a one-way ticket to the planet (that’s right: One. Way.) by the year 2025. Second-man-on-the-moon Buzz Aldrin is skeptical about the project, believing that though private corporations like Mars One have a role in the future of space exploration, something as mind-blowing as sending people to Mars will only be achieved through international co-operation (the same article answers the question you may well have at this point: who would want a one way ticket to Mars?) Regardless, let’s use this as an excuse to watch some David Bowie:
You should also watch the British drama from a few years back (new for 2006 y’all) that references the song. It’s called, um, Life on Mars. The premise is that a modern day police officer gets hit by a car and sent back to the 1970’s. There’s flairs, low-key car chases, and a 70’s soundtrack. Oh, and it’s on Netflix. What more could you want. A trailer, you say? Done.
