Meet Ojok Jennifer. Jennifer is a student at Gulu High School and a member of the Legacy Scholarship Program. She has hopes to be a doctor one day, empowered to pursue her dreams through the support of her teachers at GHS and her mentor from Invisible Children.
We caught up with her to ask about the Schools for Schools (S4S) projects constructed at her school and to see whether or not she felt they have an impact on the students’ learning environment. She said that the science laboratory, renovated by S4S, is a great resource for all students, but especially for girls who previously had limited access to the fields of science, mathematics and engineering.
She is also thankful for the two dormitories built by the project.
“Because of this structure alone, many girls are impressed and coming to Gulu High. I was interested [in attending Gulu High School] by seeing this building from outside. It impressed me a lot. I thank you for that. If there was no accommodation like this, many girls would face the challenges of not having a safe place to stay and may not have interest of coming to school,” Jennifer said.
Thanks to Invisible Children supporters, we raised enough funds to invest over $465,000 in projects at Gulu High, including two dormitories for girls, a latrine and a renovated science laboratory, among other things.
