It’s been a while since we featured one of the staff members at Invisible Children Uganda on the blog. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Adonga Quinto.
As the Head of Security, Quinto’s smiling face is the first that many staff and visitors see when they enter into our office compound. The office at Invisible Children Uganda has been based in the same compound in Gulu town since the organization was founded. We receive many visitors each day – scholarship beneficiaries coming to check in, program graduates, visitors from other NGOs, international tourists and workers interested in learning about our programs, former staff members, local leaders. You name it, Quinto is often the one who greets one. He leads the other security guards in keeping our office safe, while always improving morale with his cheery personality and positive attitude.
Quinto, like many people in northern Uganda, speaks Luo, the local language, as well as English. Maybe it’s his impeccable English skills that helped secure his spot as a roadie on the Kony 2012 tour? We’ll never know, but we’re glad it happened. Because of his time in the United States, Quinto might be a familiar face to some of our supporters in New England, where he was on tour.
Quinto joined Invisible Children in 2006. Before that he was in school and doing agriculture work on the side in order to raise funds to support his education and future. Outside of work, he enjoys reading novels, watching soccer (or football, as the Ugandans say), and spending time with his family.
“My favorite part of my job is that it has trained me to be a good observer and listener and to look for a way forward,” Quinto said.
He also enjoys acting as a liaison between other people, something especially important with the number of staff he has managed over the years.
Think people should hear about this?
