“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.” –Rumi
This fall we’re trying out a new idea – dance marathon fundraisers. Sounds rad, right? We’re using these dance parties to fund our Legacy Scholarship Program. We call it: HeartBeats.
Here’s the deal: 500 students in Uganda are currently accepted in our program, but their scholarships are in jeopardy if we can’t raise the funds for them to complete their schooling. Our goal is $270,000 for all our students to reach graduation day. Will you help us get them there?
Here’s what it’ll look like: six-hour dance parties, all across the U.S. (and even one in Scotland). Every dancer will ask friends and family to sponsor them, $20 per hour of dancing. We’re going to dance until the war ends.
We’re doing the hard part for you.
We’re already working with a group of incredible supporters who have volunteered to host a dance marathon in their communities. Here are the locations we’ve nailed down so far:
– Davis, CA — Oct 25th
– Santa Clarita, CA — Nov 9th
– Oxford, OH — Nov 22nd
– Minneapolis, MN — Nov 13th
– Carmel, IN — Nov 14th
– Stirling, Scotland — Nov 20th
-Los Angeles, CA
-Nashville, TN
We need you. Here are 3 easy ways to get involved:
1. Dance
If a dance marathon is in your area, show up and have a blast! Contact us and we’ll get you all set up. It’s so easy – just set up a fundraising page, get a few friends to sponsor you, then dance your heart out.
2. Sponsor a dancer
If none of these locations are in your area, go here to help other supporters reach their fundraising goals and to help our Legacy Scholarship students finish their education.
3. Plan your own dance marathon
We need your awesome fundraising skills, sick dance moves, and passionate heart to pull off the biggest and best dance marathon ever. But don’t worry – you have an entire office of Invisible Children staff behind you to help you plan it all.
Think people should hear about this?
