It’s one thing to have an Artist Relations Intern (like myself) excited to put together a Monday Mini Mixtape, and it’s another thing when an intern from another department has so much enthusiasm and dedication to IC, that she uses her free time back at the intern house to compile a list of sweet tunes to rock your week. Emma, our social media intern and overall G, did just that.

From Emma:

In case you didn’t know, the year round average temperature in San Diego is 70 degrees. You can imagine how sad I must have been to return to San Diego after being trapped inside a polar vortex in Missouri (Spoiler Alert: was not sad at all). I’m definitely soaking up the sun in solidarity for my midwest friends. This mini mixtape is full of spring fever jams to warm you all up.

01. CAYUCAS – “East Coast Girl” :: This song screams “spring time on the East Coast” even if, between you and me, I’ve never been to the East Coast in the spring. A must listen for fans of Vampire Weekend or really any afrobeats-inspired music.

02. YOUNG SUMMER – “Waves That Rolled You Under” :: Young Summer, hailing from the lovely land of D.C, needs to be added to your must-watch list. Her EP “Fever Dream” was released internationally last week. Young Summer hits you like ____________.

03. YOU WON’T – “Television” :: Reminiscent of both Noah & the Whale and the existentialist writing I was into in college, this track makes for a light hearted and simple jam. For best results, pair with a free afternoon and a fixed gear bicycle.

04. SON LUX – “Easy” :: Go ahead and throw Son Lux on my unofficial list of “Artists I Wish I Would Have Discovered in 2011 but Am Thankful I Discovered Now”. Ryan Lott, of Son Lux, has collaborated with everyone from Sufjan Stevens to Richard Perry of the Arcade Fire. Where have I been? This track composed beautifully, with a hauntingly dark beat and a baritone saxaphone to match. I am absolutely sold.

05. BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD – “All” :: Seeing that this track was described as “depressingly uplifting” in the comments section of soundcloud, I was instantly all in. Blackbird Blackbird, hailing from the beautiful San Francisco bay, got its start as a self described “bedroom pop album of Mikey Maramag” later evolving into the “Snythpop band” that we know and love today. It should also be noted that I love all of Blackbird Blackbird’s album art.

06. LITTLE DAYLIGHT – “Overdose” :: Little Daylight was recently put on a list of “15 New York City Bands You Should Know”. Although, I was blissfully unaware of this list before perusing their Facebook page, I couldn’t agree more.  The beauty in the track “Overdose” is its paradox. It feels like a song you already like, while still remaining fresh and clean. The synths are both upbeat and melancholy. The chorus baited me in instantly.
