Odongo Innocent stopped by the Invisible Children Uganda (ICU) office the other day with a note of thanks.

“You really helped me. In my life, I would not have made it,” he said, expressing his appreciation for the Legacy Scholarship Program (LSP).

Since joining the Legacy Scholarship Program in 2010 and later graduating from Awere Secondary School with his “A” Level, Innocent continued on to receive a certificate in teaching secondary education. He recently learned of his satisfactory results in the program.

When Innocent came by the ICU offices, he spoke with Jennifer Labuke, program officer for ICU’s education programs, and his former LSP mentor, Leo Okettayot. Innocent focused his studies on teaching agriculture and keeping animals and said he believes it is very practical knowledge to share with future generations of students.

But when he mentioned his previous desire to be a doctor, both Jennifer and Leo encouraged Innocent to continue pursuing teaching if he wishes, but to be open to other areas, such as veterinary medicine, where his expertise could serve him well if he is more passionate about them.

“We are very happy to see you return. It can take a long time for people to say thank you and this is the proof that shows us what good we have done as part of the stakeholders in your life,” Leo said to Innocent.

Now that Innocent knows he has done well on his exams, he is hoping to find a teaching spot soon while continuing to explore other areas of interest.

We were thrilled to welcome him back to the office to celebrate his success, both in the Invisible Children scholarship program and in reaching his continued academic and professional goals.
