Supporters and participants list what inspires them to run.

Innovation is the name of the game and To Write Love on Her Arms always finds the right avenues to engage with its supporters. Among various methods, the organization brings issues such as depression, addiction, self injury, and suicide, to the forefront through the story of hope, events, and merchandise. Seeing the value in inspiring and encouraging others, it invests directly into treatment and recovery of such issues. Earlier this year, it dreamed up a unique concert experience, the Heavy and Light Tour, bringing its unique approach to empowerment to cities across the country. This past Saturday, our friends over at TWLOHA hosted their first-ever Run For It 5k event.

Taking place in Satellite Beach, Florida, the event urged 599 participants to answer a simple question, “What will you run for?” Whether a participant ran in memory of someone, for their own well being, health, or for fun, wasn’t necessarily the focus but more the idea of running for a purpose took precedent. The race provided a way for the organization to invest in its local community and a way to communicate and implement the connection between mental health and healthy living. According the organization, research has shown that physical activity has “a positive impact on those struggling with mental health issues.”

Run for It, To write love on her love,

Seeing the value in exercise as a mood enhancer and a way for someone who is struggling with depression or anxiety to gain a sense of accomplishment, the race revolved around showing a community how to take a “positive step toward their own recovery” while highlighting how being active with others can impact one’s mental health. Complete with a vendor village, runners were also able to interact with various sponsors before and after the race.
