If you don’t know the name Suzanna Hendricks, you should. She was one of the power forces behind the Fourth Estate Leadership Summit 2013 – which means you know that any event she’s working on is bound to be a heck-of-a good time.
Suzanna worked at Invisible Children up until a few years ago, when she followed her dreams to Nashville and started a company called KAIO Productions. On Friday, December 5th she and the KAIO team are hosting a once-in-a-lifetime event called LUMINOUS – it’s an exclusive 4-hour dance party complete with live DJs, a performance by the Jane Doze, and tons of other surprises. (Trust us, you won’t want to miss it.) We recently caught up with Suz to learn about all the juicy details….
Can you tell us a little more about the event and why you’re excited for it?
Suz: My team at KAIO and some incredible friends (including fellow IC Alumni) put a twist on the dance marathon idea and created a ticketed, 4-hour event complete with live dance performances, bands, an aerialist, NYC-based DJs, and so much more. It’s a night for the Nashville community to come together and be a part of making an impact on the world. LUMINOUS is going to be dynamic, interactive, unexpected and powerful. If you’re in Nashville or close enough to drive here – join us!! It takes place on Friday, December 5th in Nashville, TN at Marathon Music Works.
What is your personal history with Invisible Children?
Suz: I started with Invisible Children as a Movement Intern in Spring 2011 and went on to coordinate several events, including being the Event Director of the 2013 Fourth Estate. IC will forever be some of the most intense work, purpose, and community that I will ever experience.
Why is the LRA conflict important to you?
Suz: During my time at Invisible Children I met survivors of the conflict, and it became very real. A senseless conflict where people — children — were being displaced, abducted, and killed for no other reason than the desire for control. It’s important to me because it’s an international crisis — and more importantly it’s a human crisis. These are real people who need others to say yes to helping them.
