We are honored and extremely excited to announce that Invisible Children will be joining Thrice on their farewell tour coming up in May. As sad as it is to use the word “farewell” in that sentence, it has given us the chance to reflect on how monumental their support has been over the last 6 years. I’m getting emotional already.
I (Alex) have had the privilege of spending months on tour with this band driving across the United States. I’ve been able to witness their genuine and ongoing support through performing multiple benefit and post-concert “secret” shows. Even by simply wearing shirts on stage and in magazine photo shoots, thousands of people have been exposed to the narrative of Invisible Children. They have donated entire drums sets, signed guitars, tour backdrops, and even 100 pairs of personally designed shoes to auction on eBay. This past March, we were invited to join them at the OC Music Awards, where they were honored with the Impact Award for their continuous work with IC. Most notably, Thrice wrote a song in 2005 called “Image of the Invisible” to expose the atrocities being committed by the LRA, while also filming a music video to coincide with its release.
Their dedication in seeing an end to this war by using the platform they’ve been given is unprecedented, and I couldn’t be more impressed and humbled by such incredible people. So to you Dustin, Teppei, Eddie, and Riley, thank you from all of us.
I would also venture to say, however big or small a role, Thrice’s support is one more necessary avenue that has encouraged President Obama’s decision to create the Atrocities Prevention Board and Congress’ ongoing support to disarm the LRA and redevelop the affected areas in Central Africa.
Remember to follow Invisible Music on Twitter (@invisible_music) for updates on new secret shows during this farewell tour. See you out there.
