The First 70 is a documentary project in San Francisco, California created by Heath Hen Films to shed light on California’s plans to close one quarter of their 278 parks – including thousands of acres of park land, recreation areas, wildlife reserves, and 50% of the state’s historic parks.

For many Californians, the lingering threat to close the parks is a chance to come together to enact change and develop solutions in the face of an oversight by legislators. Many volunteers are offering their time and effort to support the state park system that is being underfunded and to take on the challenge needed to keep parks opened.

In seeing these 70 magnificent natural parks, it rises as a surprise that the media has done little to disclose the state park closures or to even put emphasis on the impact that can be expected from doing so.

The result…this film. Watch the trailer here.

Moral of the story: find something that moves you. Embrace it. You can play a huge part in the big picture, even if you’re just a supporting role.
