Since January of 2011, Invisible Children has been working diligently with its partners to establish the very first rehabilitation center in DR Congo focused on LRA-affected youth. Even during construction, the Centre (appropriately named Centre Elikya, meaning “hope” in Lingala), has been counseling traumatized children from the local Dungu area since October 2011.

An exciting new development is that boys and young men from the Centre are now participating in the construction as part of their vocational training. They’re working on the construction for one week, doing plastering of the kitchen/dining room and helping to pour concrete for the matron house.

The flooring, roofing, and painting remain to be done on this 3-classroom block. A ramp for access (including disabled access) has already been installed.

Boys’ bathroom and toilets. Only the painting and electrical work remains.

Generator house is in its final stage. The door needs to be installed and the reveal work carried out.

Kitchen/Dining/Food Storage Building is almost completed. The team is working on the plastering and reveal work (finishing).

Laying the foundation for the matron house & patron house.

The flooring, roofing, and painting are all that remain for the girls’ dormitory
