Jedidiah Jenkins has worn many metaphorical hats at Invisible Children and many literal hats in life. He is now officially the Director of Idea Development / Ideology, which essentially boils down to him being the big thinker of our organization. He has been tirelessly working on Invisible Children’s newest film MOVE, the next chapter in the KONY 2012 saga that you can view [HERE].

I asked him to let us inside his very wrinkly brain and tell us the five songs that inspired his process in making MOVE. There are some expected tunes and some certainly interesting choices (Jon Secada, anyone?).

01. Houndmouth, Hound – “Penitentiary”

This song is a folky group sing-along that fills my office with the feeling that it’s 1948 and Andy Dufresne is getting a new shipment of library books.

02. St. Lucia – “We Got It Wrong”

When you’re working weekends and pulling out your last few hairs over script changes and deadlines, a bright fast jam with inspiring builds helps the drive to and from the office. This is one of my favorite songs of the year.

03. Owl City – “Take It All Away”

This song is pop-cheese perfection. If you hate Owl City, go smoke an American Spirit alone in an industrial alley and think about how music is dead and how cool you’d look in a selfie Instagram shot.  

04. Jon Secada – “Just Another Day”

I play this song once a day in my office. Because the early 90’s were a safe place for torn denim shorts. And when you’re stressed, you need a safe place to go. 

05. Niki & The Dove – “Under The Bridges”

When you’re working on an IC film, you scour the internet for cool songs that might fit in the movie. I found this one and love how it expands and morphs as it goes. Don’t think we’ll use it, but you should listen to it.
