Raise your virtual hand if you attended your high school prom.
People tend to recount their prom experience for years & years afterwards (fine, I’m one of those people) and the big night has become more or less a rite of passage. Before graduating onto college loans and rent and bills comes a night full of dressing up, corsages, and dancing with your friends. It’s really a beautiful thing. And A Night to Remember is determined to make it a beautiful thing for kids with special needs who may not otherwise have plans to attend.
For the past two years, A Night to Remember has organized a community-wide prom in San Diego for high school students with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and other physical challenges. The honored guests receive a formal dress or tuxedo, a professional hairstyle, makeup, a corsage or boutonniere, jewelry, a limo ride, dinner, a red carpet entrance to the dance, and an assigned host/buddy to be at each attendees side throughout the evening. The event is free of charge for the guests, but costs the organization about $100 a person.
That’s where we come in, dear reader.
They’ve set up a donation page, where you can contribute so they can accommodate everyone who wishes to attend. Can’t contribute financially? No problem. They need volunteers to help out with set up, tear down, check in, decorations, food, etc. See how you can get involved [HERE].
