HRC

The newest addition to our Common Good Exchange at this August’s 2013 Fourth Estate Summit is one we’re all pretty excited about. Human Rights Campaign has been a favorite of ours for years now, and we couldn’t be happier about their rise to global recognition with their latest viral campaign.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBT issues.

For the majority of the population, HRC came into their world at the tail end of March when the U.S. Supreme Court was hearing arguments in two marriage equality cases. HRC shifted the colors of their iconic logo to red and encouraged people who support equality to change their profile photos as a stance of solidarity. Well, that really took off, didn’t it? Countless celebrities voiced their support and Facebook saw a 120 percent increase in profile photo updates. It was plastered all across the Internet and showed a very visual sign of the changing tides in the public attitude towards equality.

They will be bringing a team out to UCLA’s campus this August to discuss what they’re working on next and how we can all be involved. We’re honored.
