Last August, Karla and James Walker vowed to love and cherish one another till death do them part. One year later, Karla and James are vowing to change the world together.

Tradition deems the one-year wedding anniversary the “paper anniversary.” But since that sounds entirely boring, the Walkers have opted to spend their special day with us at the Fourth Estate Leadership Summit.

While this decision may seem odd, it was a no-brainer for the Walkers whose life together is marked by faith and service to their community. James brings the ethos of Fourth Estate to his students everyday as a teacher. His vision is to use his classroom as a launching pad for young people who are both motivated and equipped to affect change. Karla, on the other hand, is business-minded and believes that the private sector can be wielded for social justice solutions.

The Walkers are fueled by their passion for justice (and each other #obvi), but are often frustrated by a lack of creativity to act upon them. They write that they are attending the Summit “to put some teeth behind their passions” and find a community that redefines “possible.”

We look forward to celebrating your first anniversary with you, Karla and James. And since it’s your special day, we’ve decided to throw a little dance party for you Saturday night at the Summit.
