Last week the Livelihood team was busy preparing community facilitators to teach basic reading and numeracy skills to the 161 groups in Invisible Children Uganda’s Village Savings and Loan Associations program. Community facilitators are responsible for training the groups in savings, leading adult literacy classes and advising groups on starting up income generating activities.
A single facilitator will usually work with several groups within his or her community. Last week, the Livelihood team brought two new facilitators on board. Andrew, one of the new facilitators, was excited to get started on Monday.
“I’ve been facilitated in the way how to talk to the group members, so I am now well versed with it,” he said. “I will do my best to train the community.”
Andrew will be working with seven groups in Nwoya district, training them in literacy so they will be better equipped to manage money and run their own businesses.
